When Craig & Katie first got in touch with us, they were clear on what they wanted to have on their website. Having just taken over the Coffee shop in town, they wanted to have the menu online, recipes from Katie, shop products and a way to order coffee & lunch via mobile.
They wanted to have their website mimic the feel of the Coffee Shop interior, so we selected colours that are found on the premise and used various foliage designs to create a virtual jungle that mirrors the shop jungle. These graphics are places via a grid as well as soft edged pink “blobs” (as we call them lovingly) – all this to create a cosy & welcoming feel. They are different on each page and with the Contact page being the fullest & warmest of them all.

The Menu & Weekly Specials
The biggest challenge was lay in creating the Menu CPT. Having a complex structure due to the need for various “courses” (ie; Breakfast, Lunch Hot Drinks, etc.), individual menu items with variations, individual prices and “course” prices, food allergy information (we used icons) and with it being user friendly for the client to update as & when needed (think seasonal flavours).
Another CPT we build for them changes weekly. This CPT was a little simpler to set up as all it needs is the Name of the dish, a photo, short description and the price. This shows on the Home page and has a hover to show the visitor the price and name of the dish. Before you hover over it it’ll show you one of Fika’s tantalising food images.
An exciting thing to do was connecting up Whatsapp to the menu page. This allows customers to browse the menu, click the ‘Order here’ button which then takes them straight to whatsapp where they can place their order. The shop get the message, makes the order and sends it out. Take away coffee without having to leave work or house, yes please!
Bring & Make FIKA at home
With both a Recipes and a Products page it is easier than ever to create Fika favourites at home.
Fika at Home
For both the Recipes and Products pages we created CPTs. Each CPT was created with ease of use in mind. Creating a uniform look in the individual recipes or products. Doing this allows the client to key in all necessary information without having to worry about changing the design.
We love working with CPTs, they’re so versatile in their set up and using the dynamic content to pull in various aspects like Headlines, paragraphs and images & galleries. These are just a small selection of things possible, but probably the most used.
The fun of creating something that is interactive in its use for the website visitor, whether via scroll or hover, by pulling in various and different elements of the CPT. It can really bring a site to life without the overly complex coding or systems you see used elsewhere.

We loved meeting and working with Katie & Craig, and we’re looking forward to work on their future ideas and where they’re planning to take FIKA next.
