Need someone to take over your WordPress website?
You do not necessarily need a new website because the person who built it is no longer available. If the site still does its job and has a sound technical foundation, the next step may be to arrange reliable ongoing support.
Cornerstone can assess whether we can take on your existing WordPress website and what needs to happen first. We work from South Devon with businesses and organisations across the UK.
The first conversation is about the website, the help you need and the access you have. Please do not send passwords through the enquiry form.
If your web designer has stopped responding
Start by finding out what you control. The website, its hosting, the domain name and business email may be managed through different accounts. Paying one supplier for everything does not necessarily mean they are all in the same place.
Useful information includes your website address, the name of the hosting provider, where the domain is registered and whether you can sign in to WordPress. Existing invoices, account records and any handover documents may help fill the gaps.
Do not cancel the existing hosting or change domain settings simply to make a fresh start. The website or email could depend on them. Establish the current arrangement before making changes.
What do you check before taking a website on?
We need to understand what the site does, how it was built and what you expect us to look after. That includes the theme and plugins, important forms or booking systems, any custom features and the access available.
An existing fault or substantial backlog of updates may need work before routine care is appropriate. Where investigation or repairs are needed, we explain the proposed scope and charges before proceeding.
Taking on a website is not a promise that every old problem is included in a monthly package. The purpose of the initial checks is to make the responsibilities clear on both sides.
Will I have to change hosting or rebuild the website?
Not every handover requires a rebuild. If the website is suitable to keep, we can discuss what is needed to maintain it and whether moving to Cornerstone's managed hosting is appropriate.
Our website-care packages include hosting. A move, any preparatory work and the ongoing package need to be agreed for your particular site. The public package price is not a fixed quote for taking over any website in any condition.
Where a transfer is agreed, the website, domain and email arrangements need to be considered separately. We will explain what needs to change and what should remain as it is.
What if I do not have all the logins?
Tell us what you can access and what is missing. Do not create new accounts or send credentials speculatively. We can explain which information is needed to assess the next step and arrange an appropriate way to share access if work goes ahead.
Some information can be checked from the public website, but that does not replace administrative access. We cannot promise to recover an account or take control of a website without the necessary ownership and authority.
When is this more than a routine handover?
An old website may contain years of valuable articles, records, products or specialist functions tied to an obsolete theme or page builder. In that situation, a simple transfer could leave the underlying problem untouched.
Our Legacy Website Rescue service is intended for that kind of complexity. Suitable projects begin with a paid Rescue Audit to establish what exists, what needs preserving and whether repair, rebuilding or replatforming is justified.
It is a separate service, not the standard route for a straightforward hosting move or small website update.
What happens once the website is in your care?
We agree the hosting and care package, the support allowance and what sits outside it. Routine maintenance, troubleshooting and small changes are different from a redesign, new functionality or a substantial repair.
You should know who to contact, what you can manage yourself and how additional work will be discussed. The aim is a clear arrangement you can rely on, not another set of unexplained technical responsibilities.
Tell us what help you need
Send the website address, what has prompted you to look for support and what you would like someone else to handle. Let us know whether you have WordPress, hosting and domain access, without sending the passwords.
If there is a current fault, describe what happens and when it started. We will explain whether this looks like routine care, separately scoped repair work or a more substantial project. Availability and any investigation will be agreed before work begins.
