About Cornerstone Websites

A small website team in South Devon

Cornerstone Websites is Scot Baston and Juliette Emilie. We plan, design, build and look after WordPress websites from Kingsbridge in South Devon, working directly with businesses and organisations across the UK.

You deal with the people doing the work. Scot brings web development, business and commercial photography experience. Juliette brings design, layout and an eye for how people use a page. Together, we focus on websites that are clear for customers, manageable for the people running them and properly supported after launch.

How Cornerstone Websites began

Cornerstone Websites grew out of work Scot was already doing for Cornerstone Photography. His background in software development made the technical side familiar; running a photography business showed him what a working website needs to do for a small business.

Client work followed through recommendations. Juliette brought her design background into the business, and Cornerstone developed into the two-person team it is today. The work now includes new websites, hosting and ongoing care, hospitality and accommodation projects, and more complex WordPress rescue work.

Scot Baston

Founder, website planning and development

Scot started Cornerstone Photography in 2009 after a career that included software development. That mix of technical and visual experience shapes how he approaches websites: understand the business, work out what customers need, then build something the client can realistically manage.

He also holds a postgraduate qualification from Aston Business School and has trained in martial arts for more than 30 years. As Vice-Chair of the South Hams Chamber, he is involved in local business projects and understands many of the practical pressures facing small organisations.

Away from work, he is usually learning something, training or getting involved in another South Hams project. The spear training is real.

Juliette Emilie

Website design and page building

Juliette’s design background spans interior architecture in Belgium and 3D design in Leeds. She moved to the UK in 2010 and now works on the visual design and page-building side of Cornerstone projects.

She has a strong eye for layout, balance and detail, but the aim is never decoration for its own sake. Her work helps make pages coherent and easy to use across desktop, tablet and mobile.

Away from websites, Juliette is usually in the garden. Scot maintains that she can turn compost into gold, and she is involved in promoting sustainable gardening locally.

Based in Kingsbridge, working across the UK

Cornerstone is based in Kingsbridge, and South Devon is an important part of how we work. We know the area, its businesses and the practical challenge of reaching local residents, visitors and customers further afield.

Our local involvement includes work with the South Hams Chamber and Kingsbridge Community College on the South Hams Jobs Board. We also work with clients elsewhere in the UK, so local knowledge is a strength rather than a limit.

How we work

Every project is different, but the working relationship is straightforward:

  1. Conversation: We start with the business, the people who use the website, what needs to change and what you need help managing.
  2. Plan and design: We agree the structure, content, features and visual direction before the build gets too far ahead of the decisions.
  3. Build and handover: We build and test the website, show you how to manage the parts you own, and agree what Cornerstone will continue to look after.

What you get from working with Cornerstone

  • Direct involvement: You work with Scot and Juliette rather than being passed between sales, project and support teams.
  • Technical and visual judgement: Website planning, WordPress development, design and professional imagery can be considered together where the project needs them.
  • Practical ownership: We make clear what you can update, what Cornerstone will look after and when separate work needs to be agreed.
  • Ongoing continuity: Hosting, maintenance and support are available after launch, so the people who built the website can remain involved.
